Even more fun in Deux Alpes

On Wednesday morning, after waking up at the ungodly hour that snowboarding in Les Deux Alpes requires, breakfasting and walking to the lift station, we were turned away due to high winds.  This felt a little ludicrous due the small breeze that was lazily playing with our hair, but on closer inspection the clouds at the top of the mountain were whipping around rather ferociously.

Most people took this as a sign that their bed required a little more attention from them, but it wasn’t too long before the kids required activities to keep them occupied.  In the end two options were agreed upon: mountain biking and white water rafting.  The mountain bikers headed off with much cheering and jeering as they posed and pranced in their saftey equipment.  From what I heard later on, they all at most points on thier downhill adventure felt like death was incredibly likley.

The white water rafting on the other hand was a little more subdued, although a grade four river, at this time of year the rapids were running much more mellow.  A nice time on the river was had by all.  We all went to the pool in the afternoon for a bit of relaxed floating and sun bathing.

After the evening BBQ at the hotel, everyone ventured down towards the man made lake were many of the towns french occupants were gathering to celebrate Bastille Day and watch the fireworks.

The hill was open today, and to celebrate One Snowboarding coach Hamish McKnight declared it Backflip Day.  Everyone joined in and from what I hear, were very successful!  The hill was again on the slushy side, and the Pipe was closed.  The weather here has been more than fantastic, but unfortunately taken its toll on the glacial snow.

After a spot of lunch we all had a go at hitting some balls across the driving range with moderate success.  Everyone then cruised over to the Luge, to use up the last of their go’s.  Lots of fun!

Have your say...
