So with the rest of the Girlylegs crew partying down at NASS, I was on route for a weekend in North Wales at the annual festival Wakestock. After a long 6 hour road trip through torrential storms we finally arrived in a surprisingly, very hot and sticky Cardigan Bay.
Thursday night was pretty random as the music arena wasn’t open until Friday but that did not stop this years Wakestockers from conducting a mass tent rave in the campsite. We met some amazing people there and were super pumped for the weekend ahead.
Friday rolled in soon enough and before I knew it I was running from stage to stage trying to keep up with the explosive line up the festival had to offer. Being a huge dubstep/drum and bass girl this was the place for me. Top DJs such as DJ fresh, Nero, Sub focus and Chase and Status were set to perform and I was determined to see them all.
The highlight of Friday night had to be the outstanding performance by Chase and Status, who completely owned the festival with their musical talent. Ellie Golding pulled in a huge crowd along with Zane Lowe and Kissy Sell out which left the festival goers on a huge high.
After a very cold and wet night, Saturday morning crept in and lord was it hot! Having to vacate the tent reasonably early due to the heat, we made our way down to the marina to chill out in the sun and watch some top quality wakeboarding. The talent on the water was fierce and I was so stoked that I got to see some of the worlds top Wakeboarders strut their stuff. The overall title went to Argentina’s Robbie Rendo who literally blew the rest of the girls out of water with her amazing skills. Check out highlights from the girls competition here.
Saturday night was just as epic as the day and I soon found myself fighting my way to the front of the crowed to see my favourite DJ, Nero. The crowd was insane and I don’t think the set could have been better, and afterwards the line up was just as sick with the likes of Kelis and Sub Focus who put on an amazing show.
Sunday soon followed and the Big Air championships hit Cardigan Bay where the atmosphere was chilled and mellow after the epic night before. The athletes took to the water to show us their skills and did not disappoint. It was pretty much a man’s world on the water today but was still amazing to watch.
So Sunday evening was here and the festival was drawing to a close but was not going to go off without a Bang. Huge names such as Example, Wretch 32 and The Wombats took to the stage and the evening was finally brought to a close with the ear piercingly loud Biffy Clyro. The main tent was over capacity and the atmosphere was emotional as the arena erupted for the final party of the weekend.
Now at home, showered and fed I look back on this past weekend with fond memories and a massive urge to wakeboard. Wakestock is now officially on the Girlylegs calendar for 2012. Bring it oooooon!
