MotoX | BSMA Girl’s Nationals 2011

Vickie Parkin, leading the packThe BSMA Girls Nationals took place on the 3rd and 4th of September and was hosted by Moredon MX at their track in Wroxton near Banbury. The event demonstrated flawlessly the talent and skill that so many British female riders have. With riders coming from all over Britain, there were around 120 women competing. The age range at the event was vast, from the youngsters thrashing it out in the auto and junior section; to the adult group, who gave the spectators some real battles for the top spots.

Taking the victory in the Auto Group was Bethany Allison with a total point score of 223, closely followed in second place by Molly Shulter with 219 points. At the end of the event there was only four points between the two fighting for the top spot, and the victory was decided in the final race. All the girls in the Auto group did brilliantly; faced with a long and in places difficult track they all gave it their all and could have given some of the older girls a run for their money!

Bsma Girls Nationals 2011The Junior race highlighted a real up and coming talent in Leonni Tighe, who was at the front of the pack throughout the weekend. Leonni flew around the track, and it was a great ending to her time on the bike as she now progresses to a small wheel 85cc. Leonni also won the Josh Coppins Trophy for the highest point score of the weekend, with 225 points overall. Ciara Robertson took the second place spot in the junior group, with 215 points.

In the 85cc groups, the girls put up a great show in both the big and small wheel categories. Taking the win in the small wheel group was Elaine MacEarchern, with second place going to Tara McLeod. In the big wheel category Laura Collingwood won all six of her races, leading the competition from the off. Second place went to Chelsea Gowland who took the second spot. Ellie Caines took the third spot, followed by Bethany Farmer in fourth.

BSMA Girls Nationals 2011In the senior races the fight for the top spot was extremely close and really gave those watching something to get excited about. The standard and pace of the racing here was beyond compare. In the end there were only ten points between the girls fighting for second, third, fourth and fifth. The winner Stacey Fisher rode at a consistently high level maintaining a score of 45 throughout all her six races, giving her the maximum point spot of 225 points.

In the Adult group it was great to see so many girls over the age of 18 still riding hard. Emma Davis took the win in the Adult group, leading the competition from the start. Emma who is from New Zealand raced her 200 clad Team DBG RMZ250 with such style and flare that there was 13 points between first and second place. Second place went to Alix Dunlop, followed by Louise Williams and Danielle Hipgrave in third and fourth with equal points of 203. Fifth and sixth went to Louise Powell and Vickie Parkin who also shared an equal score of 183 points. The points speak for themselves as to the sheer competition and standard of riding demonstrated by the girls fighting it out for the top of the leader board.

Overall, it was a great weekend of racing! The weather held out just about and it was a great atmosphere for everyone watching and taking part. The marshals’ were on the ball as soon as any one came off their bike and the medics (who were camped next to us) were a great bunch of guys, which is always a priority at meetings such as this. There was even a very public proposal of marriage to one of the girls racing, at the group photo – luckily she said yes! Otherwise that could have been very embarrassing for the poor bloke!
