Skate | Girls Rock The UK Skate Championships 2011

This weekend saw the new XC Center at Hemel Hempstead play host to the UK Skate Championships 2011, where on Sunday the girls took charge of the park and showed the boys exactly how things are done!  Doubling up as the second event of the Ladies Skateboard Series, more girls than ever were in attendance, proving just how strong the UK women’s skate scene really is at the moment.  Prize money was put up by Vans, and with £400 going to the winner no-one was shy about giving it their all!

The competition was split into qualifying rounds, with the overall top 5 girls going through to the final.  There was plenty of great riding in the heats, from what we hear Fran Stroud’s massive flips and Sam Bruce’s park length one-footed manual were only a couple of the highlights spectators got to witness (and yes, before you say it, we couldn’t make it ourselves – if you fancy becoming a contributor and doing write ups from events like this for the Girlylegs website please get in touch!)

The final saw Lucy Adams, Helena Long, Emma Richardson, Lois Pendlebury and Girlylegs own Stef Nurding hit the park in a 10 minute showdown.  The girls were on top form, with Lucy Adams coming out in the lead.  Check out the awesome video below of some of the highlights from the competition.

RESULTS:

1st     Lucy Adams
2nd   Helena Long
3rd    Lois Pendlebury
4th    Emma Richardson
5th    Stef Nurding

The next and final stop for the Ladies Skateboard Series is being held at Aberdeen’s Transition Extreme on Saturday 19th November,  no doubt set to be another great competition!
