With so many resorts to choose from it’s hard to know where to escape for your snowy adventures this winter. So after 6 seasons of dragging heavy board bags around the world, we have put together a short guide to a few favourites, based on all the important P’s; piste, parks, price and parties.
We will always hold a soft spot in our hearts for Laax, it was the first ever resort that we visited all those years ago and have never stopped going to and that is hardly surprising considering it boasts over 220 kilometres of pistes, four snowparks, one of Europe’s biggest superpipes and hosts the prestigious TTR Burton European Open and the infamous BRITS.
Even though it is a little more pricey than other European resorts, with a week life pass costing around 350CHF (300€) you get what you pay for and over the past 6 years they have thrown so much money in to Laax, unlike other resorts, it is definitely not standing still. Laax is constantly working on ideas for the snowboard and freeski community and for this coming season there more choice than ever at the Crap Sogn Gion, with a park for each level, from beginner, to advanced to professional.
On the hill, you can chill at the NoName Cafe, which over looks the NoName Park and superpipe.
With a choice of two ridiculously fun home runs, which both finish right in the centre of the Apres goodness; literally unstrap your bindings and your right at the legendary Crap Bar, a 24-ton granite bar at the Valley Station, which offers trendy beats and lets face, what you all want at the end of the day – booze!
If a day of shredding still isn’t enough for you, you can hit the Freestyle Academy, which has a skate bowl, halfpipe & corner jump with extensions for endless skateboarding fun, 4 large trampolines, a foam pit, 12 metre floor exercise track, quarterpipe with almost vertical take off, and if you still want more snowboarding, then strap back in and hit the 3 jumps, the rails and boxes for all levels! Endless joy.
With the new Rocks Resort complex there is no shortage of places to indulge after a day of snow play, some of our favourites being the Noodle Bar, where you can warm yourself back up with some spicy treats, the Indy Bar, where the mojitos are perfectly made, the music rocks & whats even better, one of the main nightclubs is underneath so you don’t even have to move.
Still going strong is the Riders Palace offering a modern stylish place to stay with everything from budget dorm rooms to penthouse luxury suites and the added bonus of a fully packed bar/lobby and super club underneath which hosts some of the most crazy party nights.
We’ll be heading out to LAAX at the end of February for the BEO and again in March for the BRITS so hopefully see you there.
