Snow | Resort Guide – Morzine and Avoriaz

Morzine & AvoriazWell what can we say about Morzine, other than it is where the Girlylegs enterprise started…. Morzine is a little treat of the French/Swiss Alpes, also known as Little Britain. Its history results in an odd yet adorable mixture of old traditional charm, new and some odd French 60′s architecture thrown in-between.

But its not the quirkiness of the village, which is crammed full of bars, restaurants and apres bliss which has all us here at Girlylegs and all the other Brits addicted (even though it does help); At 1800 to 2466m, one of France’s most northerly resort and part of the globes largest interconnect area, The Porte Du Soleil is Avoriaz.
Morzine BabyParkNo matter what your style, Avoriaz has got it, with two parks, a superpipe and the famous Burton Stash! Add to this the overwhelming statistics of the Portes Du Soleil , with its seven miles long runs. 410 miles of tended trails and slopes and limitless off-piste and you have got yourself the perfect resort, which has us coming back season after season.

Compared to some resorts Morzine is quite reasonable, if you just want to ride the park, you can get a park & stash pass for as little as 21€ or a week pass for the full Port Du Soleil region is around 240€.

When finished up on the hill, there are two ways to get home, the Super Morzine, a more mellow route which takes your back to the centre of town or the Prodains, which is the route with more fun, but it does mean to having to get one of the free buses back into town.

Morzine TownOnce back in Morzine town, everyone heads straight to Bar Robinsons, where there is only one beer served on tap; Mutzig, a seriously strong local beer which will have you doing a rather fantastic stumble home when the Robos kicks out at 8pm.

Morzine town itself is friendly and buzzing with nightlife, head to the Cavern on a Tuesday for a wild seasonaire filled hammer session, its small, crowded and sticky, but lets face it, that is how we all like to party. Not for you, or you fancy something a little more sophisticated then head to the Wine Bar, where there is a large choice of fine wines and a gorgeous beer garden packed with heat lamps and blankets and the best thing about this place, they feed you nibbles for free – winners!
