RoadtripOh boy, we do love a convoy – The Girlylegs guide to a smooth ride!

If your anything like us here at Girlylegs, you are just itching to get out and get involved in the snow and with only a week until the super japes of our team convoy sets off, we thought we would give you our tips to the ultimate road trip!

THE CARS

We like to name our vehicles and this year in our 2 car convoy we have long standing Girlyleg veteran, The Fox and newest addition The Stallion – once you have chosen fitting names, its time to think about the important bits;

> Make sure you get your car in for a winter service

> Insurance, make sure it covers you for the whole duration of your trip & carry your documents.

> European break down cover, it may seem expensive averaging about £200.00, but trust us its a lot cheaper than breaking down without it on your way home at the end of the season – a harsh couple grand later, we’ll never be without it.

> You will need winter tyres and/or chains, in a lot of European countries this is compulsory in winter. We wouldn’t be without winter tyres, they make a real difference and if you are taking chains, then have a few practice runs at home, in the warm and dry as thumbling around on your hands and knees in the snow trying to fit them is no fun, fact!

> Keep packing light? Pfft! Come on lets face it, we’re girls – we pack too much of everything and little bit more on top. We have no secret tips on how to keep minimal junk in your trunk all we can say is make sure you pack lots of soft stuff for unexpected road side sleepovers and wine, because, well, its’s just always nice to have a few bottles around.

THE ROUTE

> SAT NAV, lets face it, its the 21 century and everyone has a SATNAV, they are rad, but don’t just believe everything it tells you – make sure you select settings such as ‘avoid mountain passes’ otherwise you could find yourself at a very snowy dead end and 4 hours added on your journey

> Budget for the toll roads, which you will encounter all the way through France. They soon mount up, but one bonus unlike most UK tolls is that you can pay on your card. If in Switzerland you will have to get Swiss Road Tax for the year, no matter how short your stay which is about £30.00 and if in Austria you will also need road tax, which you can buy for the duration of your stay at most services.

> Check the cheapest places for thinsg like fuel & accommodation because we all like to save money. Some favourites we have found are Premier Class & F1 hotels.

THE JOURNEY

> With your buddies in the car and pre-snow excitement the fun should be unstoppable. Just make sure you have a good supply of energy juice and a lively co-pilot for when the Larry’s flake out in the backseats.

> Having a iPod crammed full of tunes is a must and apps like Sound Hound make car karaoke extra easy. But if your mates are rubbish you can always result to an audio book?!

> A GoPro

> Car games, (our favourite is the ‘camping game’ if you don’t know then we can’t tell you, thats part of the game) help postpone the inevitable cabin fever which will eventually set in.

> And our final piece of advice is don’t stop at the Wank sign just on the German border for a photograph, the police do not like it.
