Argh it’s crazy sometimes how within the space of a year everything has changed. Instead of drinking too much in Les Deux Alpes, and feeling the affects the next day (head in toilet). We’re now cleaning up baby sick and explosive poos (Baby Ollys that is, not ours).
But in just a matter of weeks we are heading away snowboarding with the mini man and we can’t wait, we are so excited, constantly checking the web cams and snow reports. We are under no illusion that travelling will be a bit different, as it’s not just us to think about but him too, and his many nappies, wipes, bibs etc. But you’ve just got to do it, we’ve found the sooner he experiences things that he’ll just be used to it. So far that logic works. We want Olly to be apart of our life and enjoy the experiences we do, not change our lives and stop doing what we love, and of course for him to take part in them when he’s old enough.
I missed snowboarding and diving whilst I was pregnant, at the start it didn’t really bother me, but by the end I was so eager for Olly to be here. Watching the hubby from the snobar in Cas didn’t really cut it, especially just drinking j2o’s. I remember that after 22hrs in labour I was thinking, no please not a c-section as I was thinking that’d take me longer to recover, but soon after, our little man arrived at 8.42pm on 27/10/11 weighing a good 7lb 12ozs. It’s fab to have him here, but I do miss feeling his kicks in my tummy.
So the first time back on the snow after pregnancy was so fun, (pretty much straight after my 6wk check up), I had butterflies. But found my legs straight away, I was thinking I’d just take it easy with a few runs down, but then there was the rainbow box and mini 3m rail. I just had to give them ago. Going to freestyle nights at xscape is a bit harder, as we can’t just go on a whim, but we are pretty fortunate to have family close by so we have a stream of baby sitters on hand. Whoever said you’ve got to give things up when you have a baby is crazy, yes you’ve got to plan life a bit more, but you don’t have to stop anything
. It’s fab to be back riding the domes again with friends and then enjoy parent hood at the same time.
We head to L2A in March, I can’t wait to ride the park there and enjoy the snow with Olly. We found you can pretty much go anywhere with a baby if you don’t need childcare, but as we wanted to ride together we were more limited, as Olly is only 4 Months when we go on holiday so most creches don’t cater for babies until they are 6 months. Neilson have childcare at 4 though but only at one resort, so this meant we didn’t have to miss a season, Crystal offer lots of resorts though with childcare but they don’t start till 6 months – so on our next holiday we’ll be booking with them. We’ll not be leaving him fulltime as we’ll miss him too much, and I’m sure we’ll be shattered a bit quicker but this means we get to go away. The drinking at the polar bear will change to mainly drinks in the hotel, but we’ll still have a blast.
We’re going with friends too, so it’ll be a good laugh, and it doesn’t have to be expensive either, Under two’s are only £39, which is just for the extra luggage allowance. We’ve got him some pimped up ski’s ready for when he’s big enough and some skull candies to rock in the
park.
We’re taking the gopro so hopefully we’ll get some fab footage and I’ll pop a mini video together. Here’s us last year…
Adapting to life with him gets easier by the day, I’ve learnt to take only one bag when taking him swimming – haha you definitely learn from doing things, the first time I took him in his car seat and my arm felt like dropping off after the many stairs, plus there was no where to put it, it’s all fun and games and the main thing is to enjoy everything as it goes too fast, that and not take anything too serious .We’re hoping to get him into diving when he’s old enough too, probably start off with snorkelling, he already loves blowing bubbles underwater.
Getting his passport was pretty straight forward, we got that done when he was only 5 days old and it lasts 5 yrs. He’s already changed so much since having it done, it’s crazy. They don’t even need there eyes open for it, but the flash startled him so we were pretty lucky.
Being a parent you have a lot less of your own time, but it’s all worth it when we see him smile and now chuckle – loves his moobs being raspberried, it’s hilarious.
Can’t wait to tell you about our adventures with the miniature addition
